Good morning and very happy Trinity Sunday. It's a very important solemnity. It is the feast day of the secular institute that I belong to. The name is Servi Trinitatis in Latin, Servants of the Trinity. Trinity Sunday is also a celebration of the mystery of our redemption and salvation by God, through Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit. The Most Holy Trinity is the heart of our Catholic faith. The word trinity names the unique concept that we as Catholic Christians have of God. Our God is a triune God, one God in three distinct persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each Sunday at Mass when we recite the creed we profess this belief.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church calls the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity the central mystery of the Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God himself. The triune God is revealed through His creation. In Genesis we read, "Let us make man in our own image.", in plural. Here as the Catechism of the Catholic Church explains, "God has let us in on his inner most secret. God is a community of persons." St John tells us in his first letter that God is love. God not only loves, He is love in His very being, so God is a community of love, and eternal exchange of love between the Father and the Son which brings forth the Holy Spirit and we are made in His image. We are made in the image of a triune God who is an eternal exchange of love.
