"... He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint [him] with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven." (Jas 5:14-15)
Anointing of the Sick
Whether it's illness or the natural aging of our bodies, the Lord instituted a sacrament to help us through the process. Will we transition to health, or the eternal life hereafter? The minister of this sacrament is the priest; he anoints us with oil – a sign of strength, healing and courage. Confession will ensure our souls are in the state of grace, and the Eucharist is our food for the journey - “Viaticum." Our Lord prepares us for a life of grace at our baptism, and he prepares us for our life in heaven when it's time to enter our true home.
