Fr. Chris Axline: The Catechism of the Catholic Church speaks and defines it's sacraments as efficacious signs of God's grace by which he brings us into divine life. Then their explanation of this definition, they talk about how God uses the things of the world in order to communicate with us his Divine Truths.
He uses things that we are so familiar with, things that we know how they work, how they taste, how they touch, how they feel, in order to communicate for us some spiritual reality, something greater. For example, today on the Eucharist, which the Catechism defines as the sacrament par excellence, the source and summit of our Faith. We experience the Eucharist through bread and wine, which become the Body and Blood of Christ. So why does He choose bread and wine for this great feast?
