Homilies, Ordinary Time

Today's message is as beautiful as it is important. It speaks about God's forgiveness and about how we can receive that forgiveness in our souls. We could sum up today's teachings with these words. God can forgive anything. No matter how grave, how big, how many your sins may have been, God's mercy is always greater than our sinfulness. This doesn't mean that we are going to be forgiven anyway. We are so prideful that we are frequently unwilling to receive God's forgiveness.

We are so prideful that we tell God how, and when and even whom He has to forgive.  We all have a Simon in each one of us.  You need to believe that God can make a great saint out of you.  I've met many people in my life who have given up when it comes to their personal holiness.  Perhaps they know they've been called to attain sanctity, maybe they even say they want to be a saint but their words are empty because the truth is they surrendered long ago.  In most of these cases the major problem is something they did in the past.  Many people look like they carry a corpse in their souls.  We could put their spiritual attitude this way: Had I not committed this or that sin, I would strive this or that sin I would strive to be holy, but after having done such a terrible thing, there is no hope left for me.  Sanctity is just impossible for me.
