Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)

Homilies, Ordinary Time

entry.speaker.one().title

In the first reading, Moses reminds the people and also us, that the Commandments and statutes are already in our minds and hearts. It's not mysterious and remote, we don't have to go and search for them, they are already there. We just have to carry it out. In other words, you all know what is right and wrong deep down. Now you can sit there and argue with yourself, or you can ignore something, yes. But He made you mind your heart and your soul, His hand print is on your soul. You have this inside of you. Yes the Church teaches and further makes us aware, scripture give us special insights, absolutely. We continue to learn more about the things of God in theology, but the commandments are there, lying there. Are we carrying them out? That's the question.

When we get Confirmed as you know.  Confirmation, the Holy Spirit opens us up so that we can further or more deeply use the graces we already received at Baptism.  They are there, opens us up, so we can be more prepared to fulfill our mission.  Potential is there. For our philosophers, potence, acts, and potency, potentiality.  We have the potential, are we actualizing that potential or is it just sitting there, like the servant who buried the talent in the sand.  Or are we doing something, are we actualizing, are we turning our potential into actuality.
