Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)
September 04, 2016 5:00 pm · Father David Mbimadong

In the first Reading, Solomon the King of Israel at his time said, The plans of human beings are unsure, and their suggestions and thinkings are very timid, and therefore if God did not allow anyone to know what is supposed to happen, nobody would understand the ways of God. In the Gospel, the Wisdom of God who became Jesus Christ, calls on every one of us, every one who comes to hear him to make a choice. If we would want to be His followers we should be ready to carry our crosses and follow Him. We should sit down and count the cost first, before we become Christians and follow Him.
He is calling for, what in political terms is a revolution, but in social terms we say a transformation and radical transformation. That if we must be His followers we should be ready to stand up against all odds, to stand up against the socially accepted norms of our time and be ready to make a sacrifice for the sake of justice, peace and forgiveness. Every one of us who desires to be a Christian, a follower of Christ must be ready to give something up. That we should turn away from the lure of our world, the so called wisdom of this world and make a choice for life, and choosing life means the world would stand against us, and we should be ready to be renounced and denounced by the world. So that we can become acceptable to God who alone gives life and who alone gives all that is good. Today we have come to hear the voice of God speaking through the Scriptures, what is our choice?
