Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)
August 30, 2015 5:00 pm · Father Dan Vanyo

In the Gospel today we hear Jesus talk about acts and sin. When we hear in Scripture Jesus say words, or preface what he is going to say with something like: "hear me, all of you and understand". That is supposed to get the attention of his hearers and it should get our attention as well. Hear me, all of you and understand, should get our attention.
Jesus says that things come out from within are what defile a man. Because it comes from their hearts, evil thoughts, the mind is connected with the heart. Evil thoughts: unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils come from within and they defile. And we have similar lists we know we've heard from St. Paul. Sin is objective, it's not subjective.
