Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)

Every couple of years, there is a Priest convocation, and so we just had one this last week in Flagstaff. It had a very interesting theme. The theme was discipleship. Some of you are real familiar with that, and other may hear it every once in a while but maybe don't know what that means. There are a number of interesting things that came from that for me. So, let me bring up a couple of things from that three and half days. First of all it was interesting to be made re-aware that there are a bunch of people here in this Mass, who do not feel like God is a real person in their life. It's not a minority, it's, I don't know exactly in this group. The point is there is a lot of people. And we can't assume that it is only a couple. There's a bunch.
They don't feel like Jesus is someone real in their life, let alone becoming a disciple of Jesus. OK, so for those of you that are like, "yeah, that's me", but aren't saying anything to the person on your left or right, I should have your attention. Because if you are coming to this Sunday Mass, whether it's once a month or whatever, and you're one bad homily away from leaving the church. And finding another place where, whatever you're not getting here, or feel that you're not getting here, is more accurate, that you're going to look for it somewhere else. If that is speaking to you, then listen. You can have more. You can have more.
