Homilies, Ordinary Time

entry.speaker.one().title

Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith? Today we hear readings about the power of God and our understanding of Him. We can't truly understand what the disciples were thinking, because we have an entirely different perspective on the Scriptures. We talk about the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. But Jesus was just beginning to reveal himself to them, and the Holy Spirit hadn't been revealed yet.

They were devout Jews. They knew what the power of God was. We heard that in the first reading from Job. He created the world in seven days, he was judgmental and would destroy the world with a flood, or Sodom and Gomorrah with fire from the sky. He sent plagues, but he also lead the Jews through the desert with a pillar of smoke and fire. He fed them with manna from Heaven. They knew who God was. He was to be feared and obeyed. Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey?
