Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)

Homilies, Ordinary Time

entry.speaker.one().title

As we celebrate the thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, our Scriptures draw our attention to the fact that God created us to live eternally. He does everything within his power to give us life eternal. From the first reading taken from the book of Wisdom, the author said, "Death was not the making of God, but it came into the world as a result of the hatred the devil has for God". And because, he does not want what God has created to prosper and to live in peace and joy. The devil threatens us with the sting of death.

Despite all the evil deeds of the devil, God has an antidote, He has a remedy to all his evil ways. Therefore we should not be afraid. Saint Mark's Gospel tells us how God in Jesus Christ comes to our help in our time of need. When he presented us with the episode of the woman who had a hemorrhage for 12 years, Mark wants us to journey with Jesus Christ from sickness to good health. When we have Jesus Christ with us, no matter the challenges of our lives, when we meet Jesus, all those challenges will give way to joy to peace and good health. When Mark presented us with the picture of the 12 year old girl, who was sick, and died at a point but was raised to life. Mark wanted us to walk with Jesus from death. Our death into sin, to life in Jesus Christ which has new meaning and new purpose.
