On this third Sunday of Easter all of us are entreated to go out to be witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus Christ and to preach repentance for the forgiveness of sins in His name.
In the Gospel we heard how the Disciples, some of them who thought they were going to go away because they were disappointed, how they recognized Jesus and they came back to told their story. While they were still telling their story, Jesus stood among them and told them, "Peace be with you." When He had given them peace, he opened their minds and their hearts to understand the Scriptures that said that Christ would have to suffer, to die and to rise again so that, repentance for the forgiveness of sins may be preached in His name. And then at the end He told them, "You are witnesses to this." He was not only telling them they were witnesses, but that they should take it to heart they should become credible witnesses to His life, His suffering, His death, His resurrection and that through believing all this, they should be able to preach repentance for the forgiveness of sins. That what they have seen Him doing, they should do.
