The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity (Homily)

In the spring of 1987, because of abnormal blood test results, my wife and I were encouraged by medical professionals to terminate her first pregnancy. The test results as they understood them, indicated an nonviable pregnancy due to a certain birth defect that they deemed too difficult for us to handle, and the quality of that life not worth pursuing.
We however both knew without a doubt, whatever the defect might be, abortion is never a cure. We vowed to love the child that God placed with us, and then to let Him determine what quality of life was supposed to mean. While we in turn would accept whatever came our way, as a gift to be cherished. Thanks be to God it wasn't too long after that we had the first sonogram, and were relieved to find out that the test results did in fact indicate abnormally high readings for one child but perfectly normal for two.
