The Epiphany of the Lord (Homily)

The Epiphany of the Lord (Homily)

Homilies, Christmas & Epiphany

entry.speaker.one().title

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord. The revelation of Christ to the world. In this feast we are led to reflect on how people from across the world would come to recognize and worship Jesus. St. Matthew takes us on a journey with three men from the East. They saw the star of the infant King of the Jews and have come to do him homage.

This was a fulfillment of the prophecy spoken by Isaiah the prophet.  In times past, God made Isaiah to proclaim that while the whole world sat in darkness, the Lord would shine on Jerusalem, and that the glory of the Lord would appear over her.  And in Jerusalem, the will of the Lord would be made known to the whole world.  Therefore, when Matthew wrote that wise men came from distant lands to pay homage to the newborn King, he is simply saying that what the Lord God spoke through Isaiah a long time ago, has been fulfilled.  For they had seen the Glory of God from across the earth.
