The Baptism of the Lord (Homily)
January 10, 2016 5:00 pm · Father Sebastian Walshe

Father Sebastian Walsh says: We read today in the Gospel of St. Luke that our Lord Jesus went to be baptized by St John the Baptist. This is already something very mysterious, for you see St. John the Baptist was giving a baptism of repentance for sinners and our Lord was completely free from sin.
Father Sebastian Walshe continues:
This was so mysterious that it even puzzled St John the Baptist. We read in the other Gospels in fact that when Jesus presented himself to John to be baptized, John tried to prevent him. He said to the Lord, no I should rather be baptized by you. He who was a voice crying in the wilderness, prepare a way for the Lord, make straight a path for our God. Make the crooked ways straight, level the mountains and the valleys. He who's whole mission in life as a prophet was to the remove obstacles in the path of the Lord, himself became, for a moment, an obstacle.
