Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)

Homilies, Ordinary Time

entry.speaker.one().title

I would like to focus on the beautiful Gospel we've just heard. Last week Jesus sent his apostles out to heal the sick and cast out demons. In today's Gospel we hear of their joyful return to Jesus. They are filled with excitement, the elation of this experience and they are all very tired. Jesus wants to rest, he want to have some time off, but he couldn't.

There was no opportunity even to eat. Why? Because crowds of people were following Him. The people who followed Jesus everywhere were truly hungry and thirsty for Christ. They were almost chasing him. They caught up with Jesus and his apostles before they had a chance to catch their breath. They were like sheep without a shepherd. Today I would like to ask you three questions in light of today's Gospel.
