On this second Sunday of Lent, the Lord God is putting everyone of us to the test, as he did to Abraham a long time ago.
In the first reading we had a disturbing picture presented to us, that Abraham, an old man, who was as good as dead before he got his son. Through the intervention of God, was asked to go and sacrifice his son as a burnt offering to the Lord. It was a difficult decision for Abraham to make at the time, when the Lord asked him to go and sacrifice his only son, Isaac. If were any one of us, perhaps we would have refused. I would tell you it was not easy for Abraham to accept that challenge, but when he came to the realization that it was God who gave him a son even when he was as good as dead, God would give him something greater.
