Pentecost Sunday (Homily)

Pentecost Sunday (Homily)

May 15, 2016 5:00 pm  · Father David Mbimadong

Homilies, Easter

entry.speaker.one().title

As we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost this year, mother church reminds us of our role in the world. That we who have purchased in the blood of Christ Jesus, should become worthy instruments and channels of God's mercy in the world. To encourage and strengthen us to do the work of God, God sent us His Holy Spirit in the name of His Son. The Holy Spirit comes to fill us and strengthen us in bearing witness to the message of God's mercy.

When we allow the Holy Spirit to find a place in us, we will find the courage to go out into the world to bring Christ's peace, joy and forgiveness to all people.  For Christ fill His church with the power of the Holy Spirit and sends her out to the world to bring His peace, joy and forgiveness.

From the text of the Scriptures selected for our reflection today, we learn that the spirit that God sends to every disciple of Christ is one who refreshes and gives more insight into the love of God which flows from a merciful heart.

From the first reading we learned that when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples of Christ, they proclaimed the wonders of God's love for all to hear.  They not only spoke in different tongues, they also spoke with great insight into the mercy of God to the amazement of all that heard them.
