Pentecost Sunday (Homily)

Pentecost Sunday (Homily)

Homilies, Easter

entry.speaker.one().title

Today we observe the Solemnity of the Feast of Pentecost, and the scriptures help to understand a bit more the love of God for us, and what we should go out to do when we receive the power of the Holy Spirit. Before Jesus ascended to his Father, He spoke to his disciples and made them a promise. He said, "When the advocate, the Spirit of Truth comes, who issues from the Father, He will be my witness." Then He added, "You too will be my witnesses, for when the Spirit of Truth comes, He will lead you to the complete Truth."

On the day the Spirit descended on the first Christians in Jerusalem, there was no question as to whether Jesus's promise to send the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth was fulfilled or not. It was rather, how could anyone we filled with the Holy Spirit, and be restrained from proclaiming the message of life. This is what the text from the Acts of the Apostles that has been read to us described. It recounts how the comparatively small community of believers bore witness to the wonders of God's love to the so many nationals from many of the then known world.
