Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)

Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)

August 09, 2015 5:00 pm  · Father David Mbimadong

Homilies, Ordinary Time

entry.speaker.one().title

For three Sundays now we have been reflecting on the Bread of Life and will continue for the next two Sundays. Today we heard Jesus telling the people of his time, that He is the Bread of Life. The Jews were murmuring because He not only made himself an equal to God the Father, He also said He was the Bread of Life. The were not happy. The were not happy because they saw Him only at the human level. The saw only the humanity of Jesus. The didn't see the divinity in Him.

It will happen to us in the same way. If we do not see the divinity of Jesus and we see only his humanity. If he comes to tell us He is the Bread of Life, we will be angry and we will begin to murmur. But when we reflect on this aspect of the Bread of Life, our faith is put to the test. It is a challenge of faith. That we who have been baptized in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, should come to believe that Jesus indeed is the source of life for all those who come to Him. Jesus took ordinary bread and transformed it into His body. To help us understand, that though food is important in our lives, there is a type of food that will let us endure for life eternal.
