Bishop Nevares: Yesterday was Holy Thursday and it was a joyous celebration at Mass. For we celebrated the inauguration of two of the sacraments of the Church. The Holy Eucharist, given to us from Jesus at the Last Supper, and Holy Orders given to us from Jesus at the Last Supper when he asked the apostles, "Do this in memory of me."
Today we are in the presence of the fulfillment of Jesus Christ and his purpose for His coming upon the Earth. We know that He went to the garden of the Olives last night after the Last Supper, and He prayed, "Father, let this cup pass me by, yet not my will, thine be done." And we know that Jesus was so terrified at what lay before Him, that He sweated drops of blood. And He agonized, "Father, If it be possible, let this cup pass me by, yet not my will, but thine be done." And today in the Holy Gospel we see the fulfillment of all of the Scripture. We see the culmination of the Divine Plan, we see the Lamb of God, being led away silent before his accusers, being led away to give his life as a ransom for the many.
