Fifth Sunday of Lent (Homily)

Fifth Sunday of Lent (Homily)

March 22, 2015 11:00 am  · Deacon Rick Nevins

Homilies, Lent

entry.speaker.one().title

I am the resurrection, if anyone believes in me, even though he dies he will live. Anyone who lives and believes in me will never die.

For the past 3 weeks, here at St Anne, and the entire world, the elect, that is the people who have chosen to enter into the Church, have been preparing to receive the sacraments of initiation at Easter. And over the past three weeks they undergone the Scrutinies. The Scrutinies are Rights that preferably take place at Mass during the third, fourth and fifth Sundays of Lent. Because of that, the Readings and Gospels during this time have been specifically chosen, to help the elect to progress in genuine self-knowledge through serious examination of their lives and true repentance. From the third week of Lent up to today, our Readings have been progressing along a path that we all experience when we come to realize that God is God and we are not.
