Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)

If you would please just close your eyes for a minute and let this image fill your mind. I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, with the train of his garment filling the temple. Seraphim were stationed above, they cried one to the other Holy, Holy Holy is the Lord of the Hosts. All the Earth is filled with His Glory. With the sound of that cry, the frame of the door shook and the house was filled with smoke.
Those words of the Prophet Isaiah, capture and relate to us the terrifyingly beautiful awe that is experienced when one is awakened to the reality of the intimate presence of God in their lives. Perceiving his own unworthiness, Isiah confesses, "Woe is me, I am doomed, for I am a man of unclean lips". In today's Gospel , Peter has a similar reaction after the miraculous catch of fish where he proclaims, "Depart from me Lord, for I am a sinful man".
