Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)
July 12, 2015 5:00 pm · Father David Mbimadong

On this Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, our Scriptures bring us face to face with the challenge of proclaiming the Good News. In the first reading, taken from the prophet Amos, we heard how Amos was chosen and sent by God to go to Bethel in northern Israel to warn the leaders of the people against their evil deeds.
When Amos got there, the priest of Bethel, Amaziah, stood up and told him off. "Go back to Judah visionary, go there and apply your trade. Never come back to Bethel for it is the royal sanctuary. Amos, in a charitable way turned to Amaziah, and told him, "I was no prophet, I never belonged to any of the brotherhoods of prophets. I was a poor shepherd, a simple garden boy, dressing sycamores and the Lord chose me and sent me to come to tell you what is necessary for good living." That was all that he told him. If you want to know what happened later, read Amos chapters 6 and 7 and see what happened. Like Amos we too have been chosen by our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ to go out and proclaim the Good News.
