Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)
July 12, 2015 9:00 am · Father Dan Vanyo

In the first reading we hear the priest in Bethel reject the message that Amos gives to the people of Israel. The northern ten tribes. He rejects it. Go get out of here. The king is not interested, the people are not interested in his message of repentance.
Did you hear how Amos responded? How did Amos respond? He just simply restated, "I am not a prophet, I was a dresser of vines, I had flocks. The Lord told me to come here and talk to you." Simple. The Lord asked me to do something and I did it. Now Amos didn't know that not long after this, the Assyrians come in and conquer the ten tribes. They put them under subjugation, those that were still alive. Amos didn't know that. Amos just simply did what the Lord asked him to do. And that's what we need to do. Remember that simple point. Do what the Lord wants you to do.
