Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Homily)
August 02, 2015 5:00 pm · Father David Mbimadong

Today we continue to read from St. John's Gospel, chapter six, where we left off last Sunday. Last Sunday we ended at a point when Jesus fed the crowd by multiplying a few loaves of bread and fish. Today we go to the point when the crowd did not find Him, and went out looking for Him. When they found Him, they asked Him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?"
But Jesus knew why they were looking for Him. They were not looking for Him because they believed in the signs He worked. They were looking for Him because they were looking for another banquet, another feast, just to enjoy themselves. Then Jesus told them, "Do not work for food that perishes, but food that endures for Eternal Life. Also in the first Reading, we met the people of Israel when they were leaving Egypt. On their way, they felt hungry and they complained. They grumbled against Moses and Aaron. They doubted the sincerity of Moses who was leading them. And they asked, if it was not better for them, to remain in Egypt, to be slaves, and have enough food to eat?
