Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord - Homily

My Dear St. Anne Family:
I want to begin this Holy Mass by wishing you all, from the bottom of my heart, a Happy Easter. The primary reason for our joy today is not the personal interest that we all have in living eternally in the joys of Paradise. It is not even the hope of ultimate victory over death. As the Spanish poem says, "You do not have to give to gain my love; for—even if what I hope for becomes hopeless — In the same way I love you now, I would love you still.”
We are not primarily happy for ourselves. We are happy for Jesus because the One we love the most has triumphed over all his enemies.
As you know, today we will visit many homes in our parish to bring the presence of the risen Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. The Lord will approach you today as he did Mary Magdalene, to comfort her in her pain; as he did with the disciples of Emmaus, to lift their dejected hearts; as he did with his friends, his disciples, to give them peace and the Holy Spirit. I would like to take Jesus to every house and to every heart, but the harvest is great and the workers, I am afraid, are few. I apologize in advance to the people that we will not be able to visit.
Let us ask God that the light of the Resurrection will fill more and more space in our souls. Let it change our lives first, and then the lives of those around us. May we all be witnesses to the Resurrection of the Lord wherever we go, to every person we meet. May they see Christ alive in our works and words, in a transformed and holy life.
Risen Lord, walk with us, come to us this morning and rekindle our hope, battered by the winds of this passing world. Change our sadness into joy, and our tears into songs of gladness. Give us your peace and your grace so that we can share them with our brothers and sisters for the salvation of the world. Because only in you, oh Lord!, is there true life, you who are, immortal and glorious, who lives and reigns, with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
Amen.
