As you know, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been asked to make modifications to many aspects of our daily lives including work, school, activities, and hobbies. The life of the church is no exception. As you know, in our desire to continue to serve our families during this challenging time at St. Anne, we have added more Masses to the weekend schedule. This allows for proper physical distancing while providing an opportunity for all who desire to physically attend Holy Mass to come together in person. We continue to offer the Holy Mass through live stream as well, so that those who are not able to attend in person can praise God in community with us from home.
In the same spirit, we would like to provide multiple options for our St. Anne families to participate in faith formation during this pandemic.
As we begin to resume public gatherings including faith formation, the diocese of Phoenix has issued guidelines which limit all gatherings to ten persons per room. As always, when minors are present, we must also have two adults present. Therefore, in each classroom or gathering space we can host a maximum of 8 children along with two adults. The guidelines also ask that we limit shared materials, that we intensify our general cleaning practices, and provide for safe physical distancing. For times when safe physical distancing is not possible, we are asked to wear face masks. In obedience to these guidelines, we will be making adjustments to our schedules, methods, and general classroom practices. We hope that by keeping you informed of these changes, and working closely together, we can provide a beautiful and nourishing environment for our families to continue to learn, and to fall more deeply in love with God.
The path of this pandemic is uncertain, and we know that restrictions and guidelines might change as the year progresses. However, we have a plan for how we will begin, and as changes are announced, we trust you will be with us in prayer and patience to address these changes together.
Considering the diocesan guidelines and bearing in mind that we will make adjustments as needed, we would like to present to you the options for our upcoming catechetical year.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd also known as “atrium”
CGS will be offered for baptized children ages 3-12, including sacrament preparation for children in 2nd-4th grade. Atrium sessions will meet in person every other week in the ACE building. On alternating weeks, parents will be asked to work independently with their children at home through a series of parent newsletters. These newsletters will provide ideas for prayer and study in the home which will mirror the themes that are being pondered in the atrium. For children who are preparing for sacraments, additional workbooks or worksheets will be provided, and parents will be required to attend a parent workshop in the fall to discuss the preparation process for this year.
CGS/atrium will be offered at the following times:
- Sundays: 10 am - 12:00 pm (time will be adjusted when the normal Mass schedule resumes)
- Wednesdays: 10 am - 11:30 am
- Wednesdays: 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
- Thursdays: 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
For those who choose Sundays for catechesis, remember that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the best catechesis for you and your children. CGS is not intended to take the place of the Holy Mass, nor is it intended to serve as childcare while parents attend Mass. All children enrolled in CGS must attend both the Holy Mass and CGS. For instance, families could attend the 8:30am Mass, take a few minutes to grab a snack in the car, take children to use the restroom, and be ready for atrium by 10am.
In order to maintain safe physical distancing, we ask that all families avoid gathering outside before or after atrium to eat or visit. We understand there is a great need for socialization, but humbly ask that you refrain during this time of pandemic.
At registration, you will select one of the available days and times. Your child in CGS will attend that same session every other week excluding breaks and holidays. When you register, you will see an option for CGS-A or CGS-B which will determine which weeks your child attends in person and which weeks you will work at home with your child. At this time, all staff, volunteers, and children are required to wear face coverings in the ACE building when physical distancing cannot be observed. Please contact Micheal McConnell with any questions regarding Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.

After a systematic study of Catholic teachings/history/prayers/ practices, etc. based on Holy Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Teaching Authority of the Church, participants can make a voluntary decision to be united fully with the Church that Jesus himself founded. New Inquiry groups are now forming. These virtual sessions will be offered through Microsoft Teams on THURSDAYS from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm. When restrictions are lifted, RCIA will be held in person in the parish hall. Virtual classes begin on SEPTEMBER. 5th, 2020. Please contact Aurora. If you seek the TRUTH, come ask your questions – you have nothing to lose, but everything to gain!
We recognize that even with measures taken to physically distance and wear masks the risk of exposure to the virus is not eliminated. For this reason, many parents may choose to educate their children from the safety of their homes. The church has always encouraged parents, as the primary educators in faith, to educate their children at home in matters of faith including sacrament preparation. We will continue to offer this option. If choosing this option, you may select any approved method of faith formation found on the USCCB website.
With the Home School option, the timeframe and method of faith formation are determined by the parents. When children prepare for sacraments through this method, the children will be asked to come for an interview to assure they are properly prepared. Then they will be invited to attend a retreat and a communal celebration of the sacraments. For questions regarding the home school option, please contact Rosaura Tasso.
We understand that many families are experiencing increased stress, exhaustion, and financial burdens during this pandemic. However, given these various options, we hope you will choose to continue to educate yourselves and your children in our rich Catholic faith. If needed, you can discuss monthly payments or financial assistance with Doris in the front office. We are here to serve you. Please reach out if you have further questions.
Faith formation registration begins online Wednesday, August 26th.
