About the Funeral Ministry
"The Lord is close to the broken hearted." ~Psalm 34:19
Vision: To provide assistance to grieving families during this difficult time in planning and preparing for the funeral liturgy of a loved one.
The Funeral Ministry helps facilitate the funeral reception for families and friends of the departed by providing the set-up, serving and clean-up of the social hall. All receptions need to be catered by the families. The Funeral Ministry is always looking for volunteers to join this vibrant ministry.
Arrangements for funerals and receptions are made through the parish office. The parish office can give you the contact information for the funeral and reception coordinator.
Bereavement Support Classes are also offered by the Funeral Ministry in the spring and fall. The 8 week class gives grieving families a supportive and safe environment and is an opportunity to meet others experiencing loss and is a time to share feelings and information.
The St. Anne Parish family provides this service at no cost to our families.

January 12, 1940 – December 12, 2017
Dr. John Patrick Barter passed away December 12, 2017. He always considered Apple Valley home as this is where he built a medical practice and raised his children. Services will be held at St Anne’s Catholic Church at 440 E Elliott Rd. Gilbert, AZ 85234 on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10am. Born to Drs. George and Mary Barter on January 12, 1940, in Cork, Ireland, John followed in his parents footsteps by studying medicine at the University College Cork. He further chased his dreams by moving to New York City to complete his studies in ophthalmology, where he fell in love with his future wife, Charito, and America. This journey brought him all the way to the High Desert, where he raised his three children, and opened Barter Eye Center, servicing patients and the community for close to 30 years. He served as the chief of surgery at St. Mary’s Medical Hospital and on Sundays you could find him at Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church. He most remembered Apple Valley for the long walks he would take almost every evening with his beloved dogs, Coco and Scotch, as they would watch the beautiful sunsets over the desert. John is survived by his wife, Charito, his three children, Genevieve, Sean, and Isabelle, his beloved niece Cynthia, two grandchildren Benjamin and Mia, and his four grand fur-babies. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, wwf.panda.org, in his name. Dad was a conservationist long before it was considered cool.
Douglas C. Carr(1960 – 2017)
Douglas Clair Carr, 57, passed away on Monday, December 4th, 2017 while on a business trip in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with his beloved wife, Debra. Doug was born July 25, 1960, in Edmore, Michigan and moved to Arizona when he was 2. Doug grew up in Mesa where he attended Mountain View High School after which he went on to attend Arizona State University. He has been a resident of Gilbert for the past 24 years where he has developed strong roots in the community. Doug was a third generation insurance professional that together with his close friend and partner, Paul Cyr, founded The Arizona Group Insurance Brokers in Gilbert in 1993. He is survived by the loves of his life, Deb, his wife and his beautiful girls, Sara, Amy and Allison. Doug is also survived by his parents, Larry and Eleen and his sister Cathy Hauge and husband, Todd. Additionally, Doug is survived by his extended family the Wiedel’s, as well as those who only knew him as “Uncle Doug”. Doug was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend to so many people. He led his life by example and was an inspiration to all who knew him for his integrity, honesty, compassion and love for life. He was so proud of his “girls” and cherished his role as “The Dad” – family was everything to him. In addition to his family, Doug had several other passions in his life. He enjoyed his annual tradition of taking his family to the SurfRider in Mission Beach for 2 weeks every year to enjoy time with his extended family. He also enjoyed his frequent trips to “the farm”, or “his happy place”, in Hubbell, Nebraska where he could go hunting, farming or just to enjoy life. Doug was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with friends at Sun Devil, Husker, Cardinal and Diamondback games. But mostly, Doug was passionate about the people in his life. Doug had a way of making people feel special and a part of his life. Services will be held at 10am, Monday, December 11th, at St. Anne Roman Catholic Parish located at 440 East Elliott Road, Gilbert, AZ. As per his wishes, Doug’s final resting place will be in Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Doug may be made to a Go Fund Me account being set up in his name. www.gofundme.com/the-doug-c-carr-memorial-fund As Doug was passionate about many causes, the donations will be distributed to his favorite charities.
